Ferris calls for payment of REPS money
The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Agriculture, Martin Ferris TD, raised in the Dáil today the issue of the failure to pay farmers in Kerry payments due under the REPS IV scheme.
The Kerry North TD also referred to the failure of the Department of Agriculture to fill a vacancy in the county for the position of District Superintendent, which is a factor in delaying the processing of claims.
Deputy Ferris said: “The last time figures were provided on the number of farmers who had received their REPS IV money, just 466 of 1,960 applicants in Kerry had been fully paid. That is less than 25% of all applicants.
“As far as I am aware that position has not changed since the end of January. The failure to make full payments has also been exacerbated by the fact that the Department has not filled a vacancy in Kerry for the position of District Superintendent and this is holding up the processing of REPS claims as well as holding up other aspects of the Department’s work in the county.”
