McCartney welcomes decisive action on NIW governance failings
Sinn Féin MLA and member of the regional development committee Raymond McCartney has today welcomed the move by the Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy MP MLA in relation to the dismissal of several board members of NI Water.
Speaking earlier Mr McCartney said:
“The decision by the Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy to dismiss several members of the board of NIW on the basis of the findings of an independent report, “The Review of Procurement Governance”, is a move to redress serious failings in the governance of the body.
“It is unfortunate that a the situation arose and that adequate procedures were not adhered to in a satisfactory manner however the actions that were reported on are not those which inspire public confidence nor upholds the integrity of NIW.
“I welcome the fact that the Minister will be taking decisive action and will be implementing swiftly the recommendations of the report as a matter of urgency in order to restore the proper control mechanisms within NIW.”
