Government failing to deal with Headshops - Ó Snodaigh
Speaking in the Dáil this evening, Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD highlighted the Government’s failure to address the dangers posed by the proliferation of Headshops.
“There are now 100 Headshops in Ireland. We have the highest number of head shops per head of population in Europe. Not only is great harm caused by the completely unregulated sale of the toxic psychoactive substances themselves from these shops, via the internet and home delivery, but now there is also the threat to people’s lives and property resulting from increasing arson and pipe bomb attacks. This continues to be unaddressed by the government.
"There is urgent need for comprehensive legislation to be introduced which would fast track the prohibition of harmful poisonous substances and establish an appropriate infrastructure for the control of all non-medicinal psychoactive substances in the interests of safeguarding public health.” ENDS
