No excuse for attacks on members of Health Service

22 March, 2004

Sinn Féin Health spokesperson John O Dowd MLA has said

"There is no excuse for attacks on members of our Health Service. Waiting times, frustration, fear, alcohol and drugs abuse are all used to explain attacks on our health staff, none of which are acceptable. Health staff work in the most difficult of circumstances and should be admired for their dedication.

"It is important that staff are given full support by their employers to recover from attacks whether they be physical or verbal, both can lead to time off work.

"Staff must be assured that their welfare is first and foremost in the minds of employers as failure to do this can lead to further anxiety for staff who through no fault of their own can find themselves off work." ENDS
