Sinn Féin welcomes EU delegation to Ireland
Sinn Féin Dublin EU candidate Mary Lou McDonald today welcomed the opportunity to meet with a delegation of 33 MEPs from the European United Left/Nordic Green Left group within the European Parliament (GUE/NGL) as the first in a series of meetings with representatives from a variety of groups within the European Union over the coming months. The GUE/NGL group will visit Ireland on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th March.
Speaking in advance of the two-day visit, Sinn Féin's Dublin EU candidate Mary Lou McDonald said:
"Sinn Féin would like to extend a warm welcome to Ireland, to representatives of the GUE/NGL delegation.
"This meeting represents one of a series of meetings between representatives from political alliances within the EU and Sinn Féin. Over the last number of years Sinn Féin has met with MEPs from all groups within the European Parliament in relation to the peace process and we welcome the opportunity to meet with the GUE/NGL group on their visit to Ireland this week to discuss the difficulties in the peace process and other matters including the draft EU Constitution, neutrality and the equality agenda.
"On Tuesday 23rd March, we will meet with GUE/NGL President Francis Wurtz and Vice President Pernille Frahm in Dublin. I will be joined by colleagues, Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD and Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD. At a reception hosted by both TD's, the delegation will be invited to listen to presentations by Trocaire, Amnesty International, Dochas and the European Anti-Poverty Network.
"On Wednesday the delegation will travel to Belfast to meet with party President Gerry Adams MP and Bairbre de Brun MLA where they will meet with community representatives and visit the Belfast ŒPeace line‚ and the Ardoyne area in the afternoon.
