Website sales of headshop substances must be tackled now – Ó Snodaigh
Boosted by the success of certain ethically minded landlords who obtained injunctions preventing their tenants from using their retail units as head shops, Dublin South Central TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has decided to tackle the mother of all landlords – the internet.
Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Justice Aengus Ó Snodaigh has written to .IE Domain Registry Limited urging them to investigate into all head shop related sites which are advertised via the web. He stressed that the proprietors of these particular head shop sites are exploiting loopholes to sell unregulated and dangerous drugs to the public including to children.
“The Labour Party and Fianna Fáil have both suggested using planning laws to tackle the problem but this falls way short” said Aengus “because it ignores the growing prominence internet sales for which legal high dealers do not need to request planning permission because it’s a virtual shop”.
Ó Snodaigh has called on the .ie domain registry to withdraw the domain names from head shop sites. ENDS
