Ferris Supports ‘Free-to air’ Rugby
The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Sport, Martin Ferris TD, has come out in support of the proposal by Minister Eamonn Ryan to designate Six Nations and Heineken Cup fixtures as free to air.
Deputy Ferris said: “Rugby internationals involving Ireland and Heineken Cup games featuring Irish clubs are hugely popular. However, the decision by the IRFU to give the rights to broadcast games to Sky Sports has meant that many people were unable to watch the games this year.
“Irish soccer matches in international competitions are free to air and I would fully support therefore the proposal by the Minister to do the same with rugby.” ENDS
