EU Missing Children Hotline must become operational – Ó Snodaigh
Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh has called on the Government to provide funding for the EU’s Missing Children Hotline to become operational.
Speaking in the Dáil today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said 183 children were reported as abducted last year while 500 non national children went missing from HSE care over the past decade.
“It is deplorable that the Government has failed to operationalise the EU’s 116000 Missing Children Hotline which needs to be set-up on an island-wide basis.
“The urgency of this hotline is underlined in particular by the more than 500 non-national children who went missing from HSE care over the past decade and the 183 children reported as abducted in this state last year.
“Research from Barnardos found that one in six of the children helped by its specialist sexual exploitation service had been moved around the country by their abuser highlighting the urgent need for the government to make funding available so that the 116000 hotline can start to function.” ENDS
