Gerry Kelly in Philippines as part of conflict resolution efforts
Sinn Féin Assembly member Gerry Kelly is currently in the Philippines meeting with negotiators from the Philippines Government, the MILF and MNLF rebel groups as part of efforts to advance the peace process in that country.
Mr Kelly who has had previous involvement in the Pilipino peace process will be joined by representatives from Guatemala, Nepal and Palestine along with the International Contact Group.
Speaking from the South of the country Mr Kelly said:
“The Irish Peace Process is held up across the world as a successful example of conflict resolution. Throughout the development of that process Ireland enjoyed international help and experience. It is only right that when other countries attempting to move out of conflict ask for input from Ireland that we make ourselves available.
“This trip is my second to the Philippines and will involve discussions with all of the participants in the conflict including the government, MILF and MNLF.” ENDS
