Aid ship Rachel Corrie must pass unharmed

3 June, 2010 - by Martina Anderson MEP

Bairbre de Brún MEP has called on the Israeli government not to stop the Irish aid ship MV Rachel Corrie and to allow it to deliver its cargo of humanitarian aid to Gaza unhindered.

Speaking from the European Parliament in Brussels Ms de Brún said.:

" The Irish Ship, 'Rachel Corrie', which is part of the humanitarian flotilla to Gaza, is continuing its journey and should arrive late on Friday or early Saturday. It is imperative that those aboard are allowed to bring this much-needed aid directly to those who need it in Gaza.

" I call on the Israeli government not to stop the Irish aid ship MV Rachel Corrie and to allow it to deliver its cargo of humanitarian aid to Gaza unhindered.

" I hope that other European Countries and the High Representative of the European Union, Catherine Ashton, will follow the Irish lead and issue similar calls to the Israeli Government that those on the Rachel Corrie are able to safely complete their aid mission.
