Progress at DSD Committee say Sinn Féin Social Development Team

10 June, 2010 - by Carál Ní Chuilín

Speaking after today's meeting of the Assembly Social Development Committee Sinn Féin’S Cáral Ní Chuilín MLA said;

"Progress was made today and we welcomed the new Minister in front of the committee. I'm encouraged with the response to our campaign for social labour clauses and his commitments to an improved system of procurement."

"Key in Sinn Féin's approach to ensuring social justice is at the heart of government is protecting the rights of residents and deprived communities. We pressed the Minister on the aspects of local government which will be transferred from his department in the time ahead and the need to enshrine those rights in a clear and effective way."

"We aim to work with the Minister in a productive and constructive programme of work. However we already have voiced major concerns as to how in this time of cutbacks and job loses, Minister Attwood's department will deal with those on benefit as he cuts front-line social security services."
