European Parliament condemns Israeli attack against the flotilla
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún, who co-signed the resolution voted today, welcomed the European Parliament vote condemning the recent Israeli atttack against the flotilla saying that "Israel should take note of the near unanimity on this issue and immediately end the blockade on Gaza"
Speaking in Strasbourg Ms de Brún said
"I am pleased to be a co-signatory of the resolution adopted by the European Parliament today on the Israeli military operation against the humanitarian flotilla and on the Gaza blockade. The resolution condemns the attack against the flotilla in international waters, extends the European Parliament's condolences to the famiies of the victims and calls for a prompt, international and impartial inquiry. It also urges Israel to immediately end the siege of Gaza.
"This is the first time that such a wide range of MEPs across the political spectrum have signed up to such a resolution, demonstrating the strength of feeling across Europe. Among other things the resolution calls for EU-Israel Association Council to be convened without delay.
"Israel should take note of the near unanimity on this issue and immediately end the blockade on Gaza." ENDS
