Decision to cancel Review for two weeks 'alarming'

29 March, 2004

Sinn Féin Assembly member Bairbre de Brún has said that the decision to cancel the review process for the next two weeks is 'an alarming consequence of the failure of the unionist parties to engage'.

Ms de Brún said:

"At the outset of the review process Sinn Féin submitted a detailed presentation covering all of the outstanding issues which needed to be addressed. Very little of this work has been undertaken to date.

"The British government have allowed the pace and the agenda of the Review to be dictated by the unionist parties. The decision to cancel the Review for the next two weeks is the result of the unionist parties indicating that they were unwilling to engage further in this process.

"It is not acceptable for the pace of the political process to be decided by a negative and reactionary unionist agenda. If we are to see progress made in the Review then it is vital that the two governments do not allow the process to become stalled on the whim of rejectionist unionism." ENDS
