PDs show true Thatcherite colours on threat over transport privatisation
Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin has described as "Thatcherite" the statement of Progressive Democrat leader Mary Harney that if transport privatisation was not pushed through, there would be a threat to the Fianna Fáil/PD coalition.
Deputy Ó Caoláin said:
"Mary Harney has exposed the PD agenda once again.
She would threaten to pull out of Government if her party's commitment to privatised public transport is not fulfilled, yet she is content to see the Government's key commitments on health broken left, right and centre.
"It is a truly Thatcherite party that gives priority to the plundering of public services over the interests of public hospital patients who were promised a permanent end to hospital waiting lists this year and 200,000 extra medical cards.
The Government can break these promises with no fear of a PD pullout because these broken promises do not affect the most privileged in Irish society who are represented by the PDs." ENDS
