Ó Snodaigh condemns Clondalkin double shooting

28 June, 2010 - by Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh has called for a significant increase in Garda resources for the Garda Drugs Squad after a double shooting in Neilstown tonight.

Deputy Ó Snodaigh condemned the shootings and said people should be able to live without fear of intimidation and without shootings taking place in their neighbourhoods.

Speaking this evening Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:

“This evening’s shooting come on the same day that the Gardaí seized 14kg of cocaine and two handguns in Terenure.

“It is clear that more resources are needed to be dedicated to the fight against drugs in our communities. Gardaí, who are fully trained to fight against crime, need to be taken out from behind their desks and put directly into the fight against the drugs crisis in this state.

“I condemn these shootings. People should not have to put up with shootings taking place in their communities. Everybody should have the right to live without fear and intimidation and it is up to the Minister for Justice to ensure this.

“There must be a significant increase in resources for the Garda Drugs Squad.” ENDS
