Probiotec Jobs welcome - Morgan

13 July, 2010

Speaking today after the announcement of the creation of 70 new jobs in Dundalk over the next three years by Probiotec, Sinn Féin TD for Louth and Spokesperson on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has welcomed the creation of new jobs in the Dundalk area, but he called for a greater focus by Government on job retention and creation.

Deputy Morgan said:

“I welcome today’s job announcement at Probiotec. The creation of an additional 70 jobs at the manufacturing plant is significant for the people of Dundalk town and the wider Louth county.

“However I believe the Government needs a substantially greater focus on job creation and retention in order to build our way out of this economic crisis. The Government’s almost sole focus on the banking sector to date, into which billions of taxpayers euros has been pumped, isn’t going to lead to economic recovery. Recovery is about jobs- job creation and retention and that is why today’s announcement is vital for Dundalk.

“In the last year Dundalk has witnessed a significant amount of turbulence in terms of employment. It seems to me that this Government spends more time claiming credit for new jobs rather than actually creating them -Government Ministers are keen to come to the area to announce new jobs, but they are indisposed to speaking to workers when job losses are announced.” ENDS
