Former Dell workers need real assistance-Ferris

15 July, 2010 - by Martin Ferris TD

The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Workers Rights Martin Ferris TD has called on the government to ensure that former Dell workers receive all available assistance towards job placements and business start up.
Deputy Ferris said “Between the EU grant and matching funds from the State there is almost €23 million available to the former Dell workers for retraining and job search assistance. The government must ensure that the full amount is made available immediately to the workers to help them change careers.
“The fact that the European Commission is sending a technical mission to investigate the matter suggests that this is not happening. The workers should not be forced into taking meaningless Fás courses but should be given a real opportunity to develop new businesses.
