Jobs Announcements Welcome - Morgan
Speaking today in reaction to the announcement of 200 new jobs in Donegal 120 new jobs in Dublin and 80 new jobs in Cork Arthur Morgan, Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Enterprise, Trade and Employment, has welcomed the new jobs and has called on the Government to further capitalise on the human capital in the State.
Deputy Morgan said:
“The announcement by US health insurer United Health Group to expand its operations in Letterkenny and create 200 additional jobs is a landmark decision for the people of Donegal, especially the North east area, reflecting the talent and skills of the workforce and the potential that the region holds for job creation.
“I welcome the jobs boost of 200 jobs to the area, especially given that there are currently 6,143 people on the Live Register in the town. Such job announcements should become a regular feature so that the region may fulfil its potential and I urge the Government to capitalise further on the wealth of human capital in these regions.
“I would also welcome the creation of 120 new jobs, with the opening of the Gibson Hotel in the Point Village in Dublin. Jobs in the hospitality industry are critical for the recovery of the domestic economy, which has thus far lagged behind export-led growth. I hope that this instance of job creation will be replicated across the sector and nation-wide to realise domestic growth once more.
“The further announcement by Irish technology group PFH to create 80 jobs in Cork and Dublin over the next 12 months is another example of how Ireland is structured to benefit from the knowledge economy, with the swell of jobs being created in IT, technology and digital media.” ENDS
