Greens urged to push for by-election date

24 July, 2010 - by Pearse Doherty TD

Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty has called on the leader of the Green Party John Gormley to state whether he is opposed to the holding of the three outstanding by-elections in Donegal South West, Dublin South and Waterford.

Speaking this morning Senator Doherty said the Green Party should be putting pressure on the Fianna Fáil partners to hold the by-elections.

He said:

“The Green Party went into Government with a promise of upholding democratic accountability. So far they have failed.

“John Gormley should state whether or not he opposed to the holding of the three outstanding by-elections in Donegal South West, Dublin South and Waterford.

“If he is not opposed to these by-elections that he and his party should be putting pressure on their Fianna Fáil partners to ensure that the by-elections take place at the earliest opportunity.” ENDS
