27 July, 2010 - by Martina Anderson MEP

Sinn Féin MEP, Bairbre de Brún has pledged her party's support for this Saturday afternoon's, Belfast Pride Parade which will culminate with a family friendly party in Customs House Square.

Ms de Brún who was a member of the panel at last night's Pride Talks Back event said: "Pride events are an important part of Belfast's calendar and I would encourage all who can to participate on Saturday.

"Belfast's pride parade is supported by a growing number of people every year and I look forward to be taking part again this year on Saturday.

"As Sinn Féin stated over a decade ago in our first policy on the rights of the LBGT community, Sinn Féin has a responsibility to ensure that there is no second class citizenship within our own ranks and within the wider community we represent.

"Our party's most recent Ard Fheis urged more Sinn Féin activists to show their solidarity against discrimination by participating in Pride day events in 2010 and beyond.

"Sinn Féin Head Office has ensured that our members have been informed of and encouraged to attend the Pride Day events in their areas this year." ENDS
