Sinn Féin welcome publication of CSI consultation
Sinn Féin equality and Human Rights spokesperson and member of the OFMdFM Committee Martina Anderson MLA has welcomed today’s publication of the consultation on the draft CSI strategy.
Speaking from Stormont today Ms Anderson said;
“There is a need to develop a coherent strategy to tackle sectarianism, racism, homophobia and other forms of hate in our society.
Central to this is acceptance of and actions to deliver equality. Equality is the foundation of good relations. We welcome that the document reflects this.
The document is not the end of the process but the beginning of a dialogue about the type of society we would like to see.
Equality and anti-sectarianism are the foundation stones of Irish Republicanism.
Sinn Féin believe that all sections of our society are entitled to equality and respect, including those from the LGBT community. Our party has been to the fore in tackling discrimination, intolerance and intimidation of the LGBT community. We have and will continue to support positive action to promote the rights of the LGBT community.
We want to see a society built on these principles which is open welcoming and shared.
The CSI document requires the agreement of both the First and deputy First Minister.”
