Criminals Behind Fairview Shootings Must Be Brought To Justice

28 July, 2010

Sinn Féin Vice President Mary Lou McDonald has called on anybody with information relating to the recent shootings at the Players Lounge to bring it forward to the Gardaí. She said that people in the Dublin’s North Inner City are disgusted at the shootings which took place in Fairview in the early hours of Monday morning.

Ms McDonald rejected any notion that the shootings had any involvement with republicanism and said those involved are nothing more than common criminals.

Speaking today Ms McDonald said:

“Local people are disgusted at what happened here in the early hours of Monday morning and want the culprits to be brought to justice.

“Anyone with any information should bring it forward to Gardaí immediately.

“I reject the attempts by some in the media to somehow link this crime to republicanism. Let me be very clear about this – the people involved in this crime are nothing more than common criminals and they must be brought to justice.

“Communities should not have to live in fear of gangland feuds being played out on their doorsteps. Everybody has the right to live in a safe neighbourhood.

“Criminal gangs have nothing to offer but fear, intimidation and mayhem. Communities need to be united against them.” ENDS
