Clarke welcomes opening of new A1 dual carriageway

29 July, 2010

Sinn Féin Regional Development spokesperson Willie Clarke has welcomed today’s opening of the new A1 Beech Hill to Cloghogue dual carriageway. Mr Clarke was speaking as DRD Minister Conor Murphy MP joined the north’s joint First Minister Martin McGuinness MP and An Taoiseach Brian Cowen TD to open this stretch of road which will see even greater connectivity between Belfast and Dublin.

Mr Clarke said;

“This pioneering work carried out under the leadership of Conor Murphy will see this new development benefit the many thousands of commuters travelling along this route day in and day out.

As well as this project significantly improving journey times and safety for all, it will also allow for greater connectivity from Larne to Belfast right through to Dublin and will see greater economic investment opportunities right along Ireland’s Eastern seaboard.

People have been campaigning for years to have this stretch of road developed and I have no doubt citizens right across the Island will benefit hugely from today’s opening.” CRÍOCH
