Down footballers congratulated for great display against Kerry
South Down Sinn Féin Assembly Members’ Caitríona Ruane and Cllr Willie Clarke have congratulated the Down Senior football team on their victory over Kerry during Saturday’s all-Ireland quarter final in Croke Park.

She continued: “Down’s proud record of never having been beaten by Kerry in the all-Ireland was further enhanced by Saturday’s much deserved victory. The team and management deserve great credit for a skilful display of football that reminded people of past great matches played by the men in red and black.”
Sinn Féin’s Spokesperson in the Mournes, Sean Doran, added his congratulations and he paid particular tribute to the players’ from local clubs who made a significant contribution to Down’s victory.
“This was a great win and I like congratulate all of the squad and management but especially the players from local clubs An Riocht, Longstone and Ballymartin who played so wonderfully in Saturday’s game over the reigning all-Ireland Champions.
“They are a credit to both their families and clubs and they have done their county and the Mournes proud. I wish them every success against Kildare in the semi-final and they have proven they have the skill and determination to go all the way in this year’s competition.” ENDS
