Cowen must demand Callely’s resignation – Ó Caoláin

23 August, 2010 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Speaking as the Seanad Members’ Interests Committee met today to deal with complaints made against Ivor Callely Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin called on Taoiseach Brian Cowen to save the committee a job and demand the immediate resignation of Senator Callely.

Ó Caoláin said:

“Ivor Callely was a Taoiseach's nominee to the Seanad and in light of the ongoing controversy surrounding him it is now up to the Taoiseach to demand his resignation.

“We currently have a situation where a Seanad Committee is meeting, at the expense of the taxpayer, to deal with this situation when to date the Taoiseach has provided no leadership.

“It is time that Brian Cowen removed his head from the sand and realised that he needs to make a clear and unambiguous statement on this issue. He should save the Seanad Committee a job and demand the immediate resignation of Senator Ivor Callely.” ENDS
