PSNI action on trafficking welcome: de Brún

3 September, 2010 - by Martina Anderson MEP

Bairbre de Brún MEP has welcomed the PSNI action today to free those thought to have been trafficked into the country and forced to work in brothels. She has called on everyone to play their part in ending this abhorrent practice.

Ms de Brún said: ‘Up to 800,000 people are trafficked across borders every year internationally. They are completely exploited and their rights are trampled on. Many vulnerable people are then also open to sexual exploitation.

‘I would call on anyone who can help identify those at risk or the places where they are being exploited to play their part in ending this abhorrent practice.

Caithfidh sé a bheith ina phriaracht againn uile daoine soghonta a chosaint. Ni féidir an tsúil a dhúnadh ar an an dá cheist seo - an trádáil daonna agus an dúshaothrú gnéasach - agus ní féidir breathnú orthu mar cheist a bhaineann le háit éigin eile ar an domhan.” CRÍOCH
