McLaughlin slams those responsible for device at Antrim Primary School

6 September, 2010

Sinn Féin MLA for South Antrim, Mitchel McLaughlin has condemned those who left a device at St Comgall's Primary school in Antrim and said they showed an absolute disregard for the safety and wellbeing of children attending the school.

Speaking today Mr McLaughlin said:

“Those who left the device at St Comgall's primary school in Antrim have demonstrated their total disregard for public safety including that of children attending school. Their actions will rightly repulse all right thinking people and those responsible should hang their heads in shame. They have placed our children in a very vulnerable and dangerous position.

“What the consequences of the eight year old who found this device, lifted and carried it into the school could have been doesn't bear thinking about. We could have been dealing with unbearable tragedy today if this device had gone off. The prompt and efficient action of teachers and staff is to be commended.

“Schools are considered by everyone to be sacrosanct and a place where children can feel safe and secure. To remove this sense of safety is deplorable and anyone who has any information about those responsible for this despicable attack must bring it forward to the PSNI.” ENDS
