Don’t cut Community Services Programme – Ó Caoláin
In a statement marking Community Services Programme Celebration Day (Friday 10th September) Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD urged that no further cuts on the Programme be imposed in the forthcoming budget.
“The Community Services Programme is funded by the Department of Social Protection and supports community services and community businesses including community services for older people and those with disabilities, rural transport initiatives and environmental projects.
“For many communities the Programme is a necessary and welcome support, in the absence of more comprehensive public services for the areas or sectors concerned. The Programme has been subject to harsh cuts this year, leaving many projects struggling to survive.
“The Government should ensure that no further cuts to this Programme are imposed in the forthcoming budget.” ENDS
