Health and Justice Ministers sitting a few people apart and saying different things on Donagh case – O’Neill

21 September, 2010 - by Michelle O'Neill

Deputy Chair of the Assembly Health Committee and Sinn Féin’s Health Spokesperson Michelle O’Neill MLA has said that the outstanding questions in relation to the case management of the McDermott Brothers in Donagh still need answered and that the Health and Justice Minister must meet on this matter urgently.

Speaking after Questions to the Health and Justice Ministers at the Assembly today Ms O’Neill said;

“Today’s Assembly Question Time saw the ridiculous situation where two Ministers were sitting a few people apart in the Chamber disagreeing with each other. They need to get their acts together; they need to sit down and they need to ensure this matter is given the urgent attention and focus that is required.

The victims of the McDermott Brothers deserve answers, they deserve to know that the trauma they have had inflicted upon them as a result of apparent errors in administration will not be inflicted on others in the time ahead.

The victims in Donagh and other victims of abuse must be central to everything that we do, we must ensure that we do everything we can to end the practice which saw this issue arise in the first place.” CRÍOCH
