Kelly expresses concern over Barrett move

4 April, 2004

Reacting to reports that Ken Barrett the man charged with the murder of Pat Finucane has been moved to England from Maghaberry, Sinn Féin spokesperson on justice issues Gerry Kelly has said 'that the timing of this move and the motivation behind it will raise further concerns about British government intentions'.

Mr. Kelly said:

"Last week after the publication of the Cory Report the British government failed to implement the commitment given at Weston Park for an inquiry to take place into the death of Pat Finucane. They used the bogus excuse of the charges against Ken Barrett as the rational for their failure to hold an inquiry.

"Now within a matter of days we learn that Ken Barrett has been moved from Maghaberry to a location in England. There are real concerns that this move is part of the wider conspiracy which saw Pat Finucane murdered and the truth around his death covered up for so long." ENDS
