Orde agenda on inquiries exposed
Sinn Féin Vice President Pat Doherty MP has claimed that weekend remarks by Hugh Orde claiming that inquiries into collusion would undermine confidence in the PSNI, expose the real reason for his continuing opposition to the truth on state sanctioned murder being exposed.
Mr Doherty said:
"For some time now Hugh Orde has refused to co-operate with inquests into the deaths of nine people in Tyrone. He has also stated his opposition to inquiries into murders caused by the British government policy of state sanctioned murder.
"His weekend remarks expose the agenda behind this stance. It is clear that Hugh Orde is well aware that many of those human rights abusers who directed and controlled the collusion policy are currently in senior positions within the PSNI.
"Hugh Orde knows that the exposing of the truth around collusion will lead directly to the Special Branch. He knows that the RUC, including the human rights abusers, moved directly into the PSNI en masse. Hugh Orde is very deliberately attempting to protect these individuals through his stance on this issue.
"Nationalists and republicans will not support a force with people who were involved in a murder campaign against their community within its ranks. This is a major issue which needs resolved not hidden by a continuing policy of concealment." ENDS
