DSD Minister has badly failed Community and Housing Executive tenants
Sinn Féin Assembly Member for West Belfast, Paul Maskey MLA today demanded answers from Social Development Minister Alex Attwood around the ongoing crisis at the Housing Executive of which there are both PSNI and DSD investigations into contract fraud, improper use of public money, land snatching between Housing Executive Senior Officials and property developers wholly at odds with proposals by the local community.
Paul Maskey said,
“There is no doubt that Alex Attwood’s Department is in crisis and that the Housing Executive for which he is responsible is out of control. Community confidence has been shattered by the reported underhand dealings of Senior Officials within the Housing Executive and property developers and then separately the underhand dealings of the Housing Executive contractors towards local housing tenants.”
“As an Assembly Member for West Belfast I have been inundated for the past year or more about this scandalous situation and have put questions to Alex Attwood’s Party Leader, Margaret Ritchie when she was DSD Minister who told me that she was unable to answer my priority questions as the Housing Executive are responsible for themselves. Alex Attwood has not been forthcoming either thus far.”
“Sinn Fein are demanding that these full range of serious failures are investigated by an independent external team of investigators from outside DSD itself and do so in an open, transparent and accountable manner, and as quickly as possible."
