TD expresses outrage as Prince Charles two-day visit costs taxpayers €65,000
Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Human Rights has described news that it cost this State in excess of €65,000 to provide 'security' for the attendance of Prince Charles to a private party in Waterford last month as a disgusting and grotesque waste of taxpayers money.
Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "In response to a question I put to the Minister for Justice I have been informed that it cost this State in excess of €65,000 to provide 'security' for the attendance of Charles Windsor at a private party in Waterford last month.
"Under normal circumstances this would be a grotesque waste of taxpayers money, but coming in a week where communities have been crying out for more Garda resources and when the Minister for Justice reneged on his promise to free up Gardai from traffic duty it is an astonishing admission.
"If Charles Windsor or any other member of his family want to attend private parties in this State then they should be prepared to foot the bill. The people of this island owe nothing to the so-called Royal family. There is nothing positive about their parasitical legacy in this part of the world.
"And it absolutely wrong and disgusting that Irish taxpayers should be forced to pay through the nose for Mr. Windsor to attend a birthday bash thrown by the ridiculously titled Duke of Devonshire on his 8000 acre estate in Waterford and East Cork." ENDS
