Human trafficking is modern day slavery

18 October, 2010 - by Martina Anderson MEP

Speaking on the 4th EU Day Against Trafficking Bairbre de Brún MEP has challenged everyone from Assembly and statutory bodies to individuals to step up efforts to tackle human trafficking and to ensure those affected have a chance of a better future.

Ms de Brún said:

"Human trafficking is modern day slavery and a complete denial of the human rights of those affected. It is a shameful exploitation of vulnerable people and it must stop.

We need to be aware that people are trafficked into our midst every day and are forced to live in fear and degradation. We need to free these people from this appalling situation, to provide practical support for victims and to put in place measure to end this abhorrent practice.” CRÍOCH
