Judgement in High Court By-election case brought forward

1 November, 2010 - by Pearse Doherty TD

Sinn Féin Donegal Senator Pearse Doherty has welcomed the decision of the High Court to bring forward by two days its judgment into his legal challenge over the delay in holding the Donegal South West by-election. The judgment in the case will now be given on the morning of Wednesday 3rd November instead of Friday 5th November.

Doherty said

“I welcome the decision of the High Court to bring forward by two days the judgement in the legal challenge which I was forced to take over the failure to hold the Donegal South West by election. The judgement will now be given this Wednesday morning.

“This case was taken because of the undue delay in holding this by-election for a seat which has been vacant since June 2009. The sooner we have a judgement from the High Court in this case the better.

“My legal team put forward a strong case and I am hopeful that the High Court will uphold the rights of the people of Donegal South West and make a declaration that there has been an undue delay in the holding of this by election.” ENDS
