Ballymurphy families to highlight their campaign in London
Sinn Féin MP for West Tyrone, Pat Doherty MLA, will accompany the families of the victims of the Ballymurphy Massacre to Westminster on Wednesday the 17th of November. The delegation will be traveling to London in order to lobby a wide range of political parties.
Speaking today Mr Doherty said:
“2011 will mark the 40th anniversary since the events of August 1971 when, in the two days after the introduction of internment, 11 people, including a mother of 8 children and a local Catholic priest, were killed by the British Parachute Regiment.
“The accounts of how the 11 victims died in Ballymurphy bears striking similarity to the events of Bloody Sunday. Just as in the latter case, the families of the Ballymurphy victims want the truth.
“The families campaign for an independent, international investigation into the events surrounding the deaths of the 11 innocent victims and apology from the British government will now take them to London to meet with a wide range of political parties to outline their case and the innocence of their loved ones.“Sinn Féin will continue to support the families in their campaign for the truth.” Crioch
