Doherty responds to Red C Poll

18 November, 2010 - by Pearse Doherty TD

Reacting to the Red C poll on the Donegal South West by-election Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty insisted the election campaign is far from over.

He commented: “This is only a poll, it isn’t an election and I certainly won’t be getting carried away with these figures.

“Polls are notoriously unreliable and we are all aware of instances in the past where the pollsters have got it wrong.

“There’s no doubt that we are getting a very positive reception on the doors but it’s clear from our own feedback that we still have a huge task in front of us. There’s a week to go to polling day and while we certainly believe I am the only candidate who can defeat the government in this election, we do not underestimate the challenge posed by Fianna Fáil.

“I was canvassing in Ballybofey today with Michelle Gildernew and if ever evidence was needed to prove that every vote counts, it was her victory in Fermanagh/South Tyrone where she won by just four votes.

“We can win this election too but there is no room for complacency and I need every possible person to come out on November 25th to show this government what they think of them.” ENDS
