Cullinane announces details of day of action against cutbacks and IMF intervention

19 November, 2010

Speaking at a protest in Waterford this evening Sinn Féin Councillor David Cullinane has announced details of a day of action to take place tomorrow against savage budget cuts and the intervention of the IMF in Ireland’s affairs.

Speaking from Waterford today Councillor Cullinane said his party is mobilising tomorrow in protest in towns and villages across Ireland to call on the Government to send the IMF home before resigning in shame.

Councillor Cullinane said:

“This Government has led the state to the brink of economic ruin. The IMF are here and ready to take our economic sovereignty away from us.

“Behind the scenes the Government is preparing the most savage budget the state has ever seen in order to make ordinary people pay for the banking crisis.

“Sinn Féin has shown that there is a better, fairer way back to economic stability. We have shown how the most vulnerable sections of society can be protected, how the deficit can be reduced in a more appropriate timeframe while investing money from the rainy day fund to create jobs and stimulate the economy.

“The government needs to resign or be kicked out. I am calling on people to come out this weekend and support Sinn Féin protests against government incompetence, budget cuts and IMF interference. Let the government know how you feel. Make it clear you will not tolerate IMF interference or the programme of cuts.” ENDS
