People no longer have confidence in Cowen – Adams

23 November, 2010 - by Pat Sheehan, Westminster

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has said it is unacceptable that Brian Cowen would seek to push ahead with a budget and a four year plan before dissolving the Dáil and calling a general election.

Mr Adams commended his party’s TDs for tabling a motion of no confidence in Brian Cowen and called on all members of the Dáil from across the political divide to support the motion.

Speaking from Donegal South West where he is canvassing with Senator Pearse Doherty, Mr Adams said:

“What Brian Cowen is seeking to do is simply undemocratic. He is denying the people their say in how we proceed.

“It is unacceptable that he would seek to push ahead with the budget and a four year plan before a general election.

“The people no longer have any confidence in Brian Cowen and I commend the Sinn Féin TDs for tabling a motion of no confidence in him today.

“All members of the Dáil from across the political divide should support this motion.

“The Taoiseach should publish his four year plan, suspend the budget and call a general election now.” ENDS
