Sinn Féin slam West Belfast shooting

24 November, 2010

Sinn Féin Councillor for West Belfast, Briege Brownlee, has slammed those behind a so called punishment shooting in Iveagh Parade in West Belfast describing it as reckless.

Speaking today Cllr Brownlee said:

“This shooting is wrong and completely reckless. I know the overwhelming majority of people within this area acknowledge that fact. Those behind this attack have shown no regard for the local community.

“It was carried out at a time of day when there are many school children and parents coming and going around these streets. There is a primary school literally around the corner from Iveagh Parade.

“These shootings need to stop.  They achieve nothing. There is ongoing work within these communities aimed at addressing anti social behaviour. The focus needs to be on that work. There is no excuse for gunmen, with no support in this community, stepping in, in a vain attempt to forward their own, failed agenda.”
