Government is committing economic treason – Ó Caoláin

27 November, 2010 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Sinn Fein Dáil leader Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin has said the Government is committing economic treason by concluding a deal this weekend on an IMF/ECB loan and at an interest rate that will impoverish future generations.

He said:

“The Fianna Fail/Green Government is committing economic treason this weekend. If it concludes the deal for some 85 billion euro from the IMF/ECB and at the signalled interest rate of 6.7% it will impoverish this and future generations. There should be no deal. The IMF should be told to go home. We stated this clearly when we met them last Thursday.

“No such deal to place the State in economic bondage can be binding on a future Government and should not be honoured. I call on all parties to state that these talks should end and the Government should pull back from the brink now.” ENDS
