De Brún meets Agriculture Minister in Brussels

30 November, 2010 - by Martina Anderson MEP

Bairbre de Brún MEP met with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Michelle Gildernew, in Brussels to discuss the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the budget and the December Fisheries Council.

"This is a critical time for the farming and fishing communities and it is more important than ever that our MEPs and Ministers continue to work together for the best interests of the North.

"We need to make these industries a priority, especially in light of the financial crisis and budget cuts"

"We are working together to protect Irish fishing quotas and ensure a fair and adequate future for the CAP.

"I also took the opportunity to raise with Michelle some issues that constituents have raised with me about the guidelines for access to Rural Development funds."

The Ministers visit is hoped to shed some light on the future of the Irish fishing quota and CAP allowance which Ms de Brún has been consistently lobbying for.
