Doherty named as Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson

2 December, 2010 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD, Pearse Doherty TD

Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has announced that newly elected TD Pearse Doherty is to take over as the party’s new Finance Spokesperson.

Arthur Morgan will now take on a role as Deputy Finance Spokesperson and will retain responsibility for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

Deputy Ó Caoláin said:

“It is with great pleasure that I make the announcement that Pearse is to take over from Deputy Arthur Morgan as our Finance Spokesperson.

“In doing so I want to pay tribute to the work that Arthur has done over the past number of years as our Finance Spokesperson. He was key to developing the party’s policies and promoting them. He has shown people that there is a better, fairer way out of the economic crisis. Arthur has put Sinn Féin’s economic analysis front and centre as the only credible alternative to the Government’s disastrous policies.

“I am very confident that Pearse Doherty will make an excellent Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson.”

Deputy Doherty said:

“I am honoured to take on this important role within our parliamentary team and look forward to working closely with my colleague Deputy Arthur Morgan in continuing to put forward the only credible opposition in the Dáil chamber.

“I am excited to have been given this opportunity to play a key part in promoting Sinn Féin’s economic and political alternative to the consensus for cuts.

“I am proud to be part of the only party in the Dáil that is opposing the programme of cuts and that is putting forward a credible alternative that protects the vulnerable, invests in jobs and ensures that all , including the super rich, are taxed according to their ability to pay.

“The people are looking for an alternative vision with real leadership and that is what Sinn Féin is all about.” ENDS
