Sue Ramsey to support students at EMA protest

9 December, 2010 - by Sue Ramsey

Sinn Féin MLA for west Belfast and Employment and Learning Committee member Sue Ramsey will join students from across the city in a protest calling for the retention of Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) at City Hall this afternoon.

Speaking ahead of the event Sue said;

“Last week I joined pupils from St Roses in protesting against any plans to scrap EMA payments to students here.

I have raised the concerns of students at the Employment and Learning Committee and also raised them directly with the Minister Danny Kennedy when we met him on Monday.

I have sought assurances from the Minister that the EMA payments for students in the north will be retained and not ended like it has been in England.

Sinn Féin remains firmly opposed to students fees and any proposed increase must be resisted.” CRÍOCH
