13 December, 2010

Sinn Féin TD for Louth, Arthur Morgan spoke this evening of his delight that Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has been selected as the party’s candidate for Louth and East Meath for the next General Election.

Welcoming the decision of the selection convention at the Fairways Hotel in Dundalk, Deputy Morgan said:

"I am delighted that our party leader has been selected as the next Sinn Fein candidate for the constituency of Louth.

“This is an historic day. It this is the first time any party leader has ever run in this constituency.

"It is fantastic for the party and wonderful for the people of Louth to have a person of such international stature running in the constituency.

“This bold move taken by our party leader represents the new type of attitude needed in politics on this island — courage and real leadership.

"I welcome the decision wholeheartedly and look forward to supporting our party leader, Sinn Féin Councillors and the entire organisation in Louth in the upcoming campaign in every way I can.

“Today is an exciting day for this constituency." ENDS
