Maskey: “Trinity Housing Association must get back to work now”

30 December, 2010 - by Alex Maskey

Sinn Féin south Belfast MLA Alex Maskey has slammed Trinity Housing Association after leaving a young mother with no repairs to her damaged heating system for over a week.

Speaking after he attended an emergency Sinn Féin meeting in City Hall this morning Alex said;

“This morning’s meeting highlighted similar stories and experiences emanating from across the city.

One incident out of many which I highlighted is the plight of a young mother in the Ballynafeigh area who lives in a Trinity Housing Association property whose heating went off on the 17th December.

Over the Christmas period she was ringing the Association phone number and then referred to a helpline and whilst staff there referred it to a contractor, they have been unable to carry out any repairs. So, as of late last night there has been no progress made in dealing with this woman’s case.

At the heart of the problem is the fact that this woman has been unable to get the contractor out to deal with the problem and neither she nor I have been able to get in direct contact with the management of Trinity because they are not returning to work until the 4th January.

This is a complete and total disgrace.

Trinity Housing Association must get back to work now; they must act immediately to protect their tenant and her young child before it goes on any longer.” CRÍOCH
