Government’s continued failure protect businesses feeding unemployment crisis – Morgan
Speaking today after it was revealed that twenty-five firms went bust every week in 2010, Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Enterprise, Arthur Morgan said the Government has failed to offset the effects of the decline in the construction industry with meaningful employment opportunities.
“These businesses are the heart of employment in this State. They create jobs in those areas that have been overlooked by multinational companies and the lack of support to them from Government is appalling.
“The Government has failed to offset the effects of the decline in the construction industry with meaningful employment opportunities. For every business that is declared insolvent, more people are thrust into unemployment.
“The closure of business on this huge scale has a terrible knock-on effect for the economy. For each business that closes, a series of suppliers and interconnected companies are affected.
“The Government must intervene and troubleshoot the problems that are causing such devastating closures. Its continued failure to protect businesses is feeding the unemployment crisis.” ENDS
