Belated Labour Party motion of no confidence welcome – Ó Caoláin

14 January, 2011 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has welcomed the tabling by the Labour Party of a motion of no confidence in the Fianna Fáil/Green Government.

Deputy Ó Caoláin said:

“In the last Dáil session, prior to the election of Pearse Doherty and the formation of the Technical Group, the Sinn Féin TDs tabled a motion of no confidence in Taoiseach Brian Cowen as head of the Fianna Fáil/Green Government. As we did not then have access to Dáil time to have the motion debated, we called on Labour and Fine Gael to support it and to have it debated in their time, or to bring forward a similar motion or motions. Both parties chose not to do so.

“On Thursday of this week the seven TDs in the Technical Group tabled a no confidence motion, signalling their intent to use their time to have it debated. I believe it is this which has now prompted the Labour Party to finally table their no confidence motion. Though belated, this is welcome. The immediate priority for all should be the earliest possible removal of this Government and the calling of a General Election.” ENDS
