Cowen prolonging a disastrous Government – Ó Caoláin

16 January, 2011 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Commenting on the announcement of Brian Cowen that he intends to remain as Taoiseach and Fianna Fail leader, the Sinn Fein Dáil leader Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin said:

“Brian Cowen is determined to prolong the life of a disastrous Government that should have been hunted from office long ago. His announcement that he will stay on as Taoiseach and Fianna Fail leader and continue this administration will be greeted with anger by people throughout Ireland. Their priority is to get rid of this Fianna Fáil/Green Government, regardless of who is the leader of Fianna Fáil.

“The Taoiseach's would-be replacements as leader of Fianna Fáil have, up to now, held back, preferring to let Brian Cowen take the inevitable punishment for his party during the General Election campaign. Their dilemma now may be fascinating for political observers but it is irrelevant as far as the vast majority of people are concerned. They are concerned with the need for jobs for the over 400,000 unemployed, not the job of Fianna Fáil leader.

“Never was an immediate General Election more necessary than now and never was it more necessary to reverse the policies of an outgoing Government.” ENDS
