There is a credible alternative – Adams

25 January, 2011 - by Pat Sheehan

Speaking to the media today Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams said there is a credible alternative to bailing our banks and burdening ordinary citizens and future generations with massive debt.

He said:

“There is a credible alternative. The money exists in the National Pension Reserve Fund and in Exchequer funding to fund the state for this year.

“The focus for the next twelve months must be on protecting and creating jobs, growing the economy through a stimulus package and returning to the bond markets in 2012 to negotiate funds at an acceptable rate.

“This means breaking the connection between the private bank debt and sovereign debt.

“It is unacceptable that every man, woman and child has been saddled with the banking debt.” ENDS
